Hi! Welcome to our Porter Davis Cremorne 41. This site will follow the progress of our home from the start, through every stage until the end. We will try and include as many photos as we can along the way. Why do you care? You probably don't - unless you are building or thinking of building your own place, or unless you are one of our friends or relatives. Strap yourself in - it's going to be a long and bumpy ride!

Trussed

Trusses were delivered yesterday. Given the speed with which the guys have worked so far, the frame will be finished very soon. As you can see from the picture below, the trusses are already up on the rumpus room.

Sticks and Steel

Went past the place yesterday and saw that the second storey is well on it's way. What's that? Cut the talk and put up some pictures? Ok. Here they are.....

There are two steel beams across the Family Room / Kitchen. Here's one of them!

Bit of a mis-cue with the old nail gun. Quite a few of these around the place. You can also wee where the upper frame is nailed directly to the floor, without any supporting blocks underneath. Hmmm.

Side shot

I'm quite impressed with how well the slab and the frame line up.

Level 2

Went past the house today and the chippies are working on the second floor. Everything on the ground floor looks complete, and everything is happening fast!

Only one picture today:

More Frame

Floor level frame is now almost complete, and the boys have even put in some of the floor joists for the second storey.

The external doorways have been delivered.

As always, pictures tell they story (errr - or would that be "storey"?)

House of Sticks

Two days worth of activity in this entry.

Yesterday we visited the slab, and we found that all the plates had been cut and laid out, meaning we could walk through the rooms on the ground floor.

Today we went to visit our slab, and found we have the beginnings of a frame:

Wow! These guys move quickly. They have also pre-cut may of the studs and seem to have laid everything out well. A couple of steel beams have been delivered, along with flooring for the upper level. One thing which is a surprise is the generator on site. Power not connected perhaps?

24 Stubbies = ?

We now have a slab:

Sorry - here's the real one:

As you can see, the chippies have been busy already, preparing noggins and other bits and pieces for the frame. The picture above was taken yesterday - 34 degrees and sunny. So far today its about 18 and raining all day. :-)

Pumped!

The concrete was pumped into the slab today, and we were lucky enough to get a few photos.

This thing was so big, it could probably be seen from the moon - or at least a few blocks away.

I'm sure the next invoice is on it's way as we speak.....

As usual, click on the photo to see a bigger version.

Ready to go

Yesterday everything was completed in preparation for the big concrete pour. As you can see from the pictures below, there are large foam waffle pods throughout the floor - with the exception of load bearing points.

I think this means that the pour will happen tomorrow (Monday), and the invoice for the first progress payment will appear very soon after!

Waffle on

As the title suggests, the waffle pods have arrived at the property. More than that, the form work has been done, and the slab will be poured soon!

Don't cut these with a grinder or blow torch...

The above pictures were taken this morning at about 7am, and the picture below shows the fog sitting in the valley as you look down street (yep, click on the picture to see a bigger version).

Plumbers crack!

Today the Plumbers did a cracking good job, and put in the wastes and storm water for the house. At this rate, I'll have to update the blog twice a day (kidding - I wouldn't do that to you!).

Another landscape picture:

Thanks for the kind comments everyone (or almost everyone....)

Tapped and Piered

Today the tap was installed, and the 15 concrete piers which add support to the concrete slab were installed.

Photos of course:

Filled and shaped

Yesterday the guys played in the dirt again, and did some shaping and levelling.

Instead of digging into the block (meaning a big retaining wall they will have to build), they brought in some fill on the opposite side of the block (which will probably mean a retaining wall that we will have to build!).

Photos are attached (of course!)

We've Started!

That's right - we have started, or rather Porter Davis has started moving dirt on our block.

Never thought the sight of someone playing with dirt could be so exciting. Even more exiting are the blue marks (yes - blue. Thanks for comments about the recent "pink" entries. You know who you are....)

Down to business - the block was scraped and cut today. Blue marks on the fence indicate (we assume) the various features of the house.

Here's a landscape picture:

and on the ground!

As we write this, it's started raining. Noooo! Sorry Geelong - but it's not allowed to rain for the next 30 weeks. The clock has started today!

Thanks to Al who lives in the same street, and alerted us to the activity!

File has moved!

Quick update - our file went across to the Porter Davis construction team on January 31. That means we should see a start soon!
