Hi! Welcome to our Porter Davis Cremorne 41. This site will follow the progress of our home from the start, through every stage until the end. We will try and include as many photos as we can along the way. Why do you care? You probably don't - unless you are building or thinking of building your own place, or unless you are one of our friends or relatives. Strap yourself in - it's going to be a long and bumpy ride!

Sheets, slab, shed and scumbags.

I like to try and make the title of the blog entries interesting, but sometimes they do require an explanation!

Sheets - Cement sheets went up today on the garage and under the balcony. Looking good! Photos below.

Slab - I swept the concrete slab out the back today, as the shed is going up over the next few days. Photo below.

Shed - As above!

Scumbags - the local scumbag kids have been at it again. I've mentioned them before, and we've had a constant battle with these morons to try and stay on top of the mess they make. Over the past month they have broken some roofing tiles, thrown bricks around, pulled silt pits out, and checked as much crap on the slab as they can find. One of our soon the be new neighbours (who works with Bernadette) happened to be out the front of his home last Saturday and caught the little shits red handed. One of them was tring to force his way in, and two others were generally making as much mess as they could. He went to town on them, and tells us that they seemed to be scared as hell. Hopefully they stay away.

Anyhow, onto more interesting things! The balcony floor and ceiling has been done - the tiler should be back soon to put the tiles on the balcony. The painter is due to come back soon to finish painting. The garage door is in a warehouse in Geelong waiting for the garage ceiling to be painted. The gas flame heater will be going in soon, and there will be a site clean which will improve the place no end.

Met with the Site Supervisor on Saturday, and the render colour that we are seeing is an undercoat - top coat should go on this week. Enough talk - time for pics!

Freshly swept slab. Expect to see a shed on it soon!

Balcony floor

Not vandalism - this is where the heater is going.

Neat job in the garage

Plastering done in the garage - now waiting for paint.

Same goes for the front of the garage - waiting for paint.

Under the balcony - We were amazed that a solid ceiling wasn't standard!

Last Saturday we also went shopping for a few lights to replace the junction boxes which are installed in various place around the house.

Stair lights are 240V LED units which give off a pale blue colour, and should look pretty good:

The pendant light which will go over the dining table:

We also bought a fan for the bedroom - and we know which lights we want for the front of the balcony, but haven't bought them as yet. Cheers!

Here's looking at you!

Yes, we have mirrors - almost. Two out of three mirrors have been installed.

We are thinking that as with everything else regarding the vanity in the ensuite, the height of the vanity has been stuffed up - and the mirror as supplied was the wrong size. That's the theory, anyway.

We must admit that the colour of the render was not quite as dark as we had thought, but it something we can live with. It should look better once the garage door has been installed.

Ok. Pictures: Mirrors, ducted vacuum points, cover on the heater box (externally), render....

Render is well under way

Close up of the colour - bit lighter than we originally thought.

Balcony

Open duct....

... closed duct.

Our tap fills the bath ok - just!
The best part is that it swings out of the way when you don't need it.

Plates - but no cutlery!

Yesterday we decided to fit some wall plates to the theatre room, as the house was open and the rendering guys were working.

A few pictures - the render colour will end up being "slate" which is more of a grey colour.

Tapped out.

Visited the house today, and the most noticeable thing is that the plumbers have been back to do the fit off. Toilets, taps and showers have been installed.

Mixer tap with veggie sprayer was part of the promotion we received

Simple spout in the laundry

Bathroom is coming together.
Need to check whether the spout comes out of the wall far enough!

Shower in the main bathroom

Dunny. (As if you didn't know)

We left a note for plumber to put the rail up a bit higher,
due to the height of one of the owners....

Looks much better than the last time we saw this!

A couple of people have asked about the shed we are building in the back yard. The slab is down, however We've asked the shed people to hold of the construction as we needed to check the fence situation. The concreters put the slab too damn close to the fence line, so we want to check whether the fence needs to go up first.

It turns out that the fencers can put up the fence anyway with some mucking around, so the shed will go up soon.

Need to get started on the retaining wall soon....

On the tiles

Our timing was excellent again today as we went past the house and had our noses pressed against the glass as the tiler arrived. Took a few happy snaps, and we are very happy with the progress.

Not sure about the tiles in the ensuite - it seems that the vanity in this room is determined to give us some grief! As you can see, at the moment the taps don't quite line up - not a great deal in it, and not normally noticable, except that it's near the top of the tiles. We asked the tiler about putting another row in - but he wanted to have a chat with SS first to see if the mirror has already been ordered. Fair enough - we will see what happens!

Should look great with the white tub revealed

Shower niche has been fixed - looks great!

Even the bath has been done - this room still to be grouted

Finally, things are looking as we want them in here!

Hold me back.

Not much has happened this week, but we do have a new retaining wall down the side of the house, behind the garage. Some work has been done on the garage, and as far as we can tell, no work at all inside.

Some new carpentry on the garage

Plastering still needs to be finished in the garage

Drainage has been put into the brickwork on the balcony

M&M Hit Mitre 10

It seems as though our cyber-buddies (M&M) have done their stuff in Mitre 10 down our way.

Apologies for the poor pictures (camera phone), however as you can see, someone has hit the door display with brightly coloured paint, and M&M are the prime suspects.

The Mitre 10 people know who you are, and are coming for you....

Just in case you don't know what we are on about, check this: M&M's Blog.

Vanity Raised

After a few weeks of waiting the vanity in our ensuite was raised on Saturday morning. We were lucky enough to be visiting the house at the time the fitter arrived.

Not much else has happened since the tiler left. The plaster under the al fresco has been painted, and that's about all.

New kicker has been delivered

Painted ceiling

Installation of new kicker in progress

All done! Much nicer.

Floored

Floor the shed went in on Friday, and is curing nicely. We need to put some support across the back fence before the shed is erected. Probably a job for this weekend.

Shed slab

Laundry floor has been grouted

And the Power Room floor

Main bathroom - oops!

Ensuite shower showing feature

Cabinet should be lifted soon! Floor in and grouted.

Had a chat with the Site Supervisor onsite yesterday and worked through some of the issues. Nothing major, and should be sorted soon!
